Only Love can Break your Heart

Reading Indie 88‘s article, “The Best Albums Written by Broken Hearts“, is making me think about music, love and songwriting. Love and heartbreak definitely is the catalyst to some amazing creative output- leading to some of my favourite albums. Having no musical skill myself, I can still relate in that after every breakup I would pour myself in classic heartbreak songs to make myself feel sadder or better.

After my first breakup- I listened to the saddest playlist ever on repeat and wallowed in self pity. This included Dave Matthew’s “Stay or Leave”, David Gray’s “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye”, The Tallest Man on Earth’s “Love is All”, and Gordon Lightfoot’s “If you could read my mind”.

Last summer I went through quite a doozy of a split. If you are going through a tough break up and need some angry break up songs- I’m your girl. Some of these come from my middle school years, but I am not ashamed. Here is a playlist that will get you off the couch and at the nearest bar taking down number’s like it’s your job.

1. “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops)” – Blue Cantral

2. “I Hate Everything about you” – Three days Grace

3. “I will survive” – Gloria Gaynor

4. “No Surprise” – Theory of a Deadman

5. “FU” – Miley Cyrus

(The whole Bangerz album is amazing for a post-breakup pick-me-up. Miley really spoke to me)

6. “Cry me a River” – Justin Timberlake

7. “Since U Been Gone” – Kelly Clarkson

Probably the best breakup song ever.

8. “Stronger” – Britney Spears

9.”So Yesterday” – Hilary Duff
