The Arcs at Massey Hall. December 10, 2015
I can’t remember the last time I was at Massey Hall. Embarrassingly enough, I think I was around 12 years old and saw Kalan Porter perform after recently winning the premiere season of Canadian Idol. My presence at the venue was long overdue. Its intimate and comfortable setting provides the perfect environment to see any kind of act. I was so pleased to get a chance to see The Arcs so soon after the release of their debut album, Yours, Dreamily. Dan Auerbach is a true talent, and along with the rest of the Arcs and Mariachi Flo de Toloache- the first all female mariachi band – they put on an amazing performance to say the very least .
Auerbach takes on the sound of psychedelic rock with his new side project. It is no secret that this is my all-time favourite genre, and after devouring the album I couldn’t wait to see what they would do with it live. They say psychedelic music attempts to replicate or enhance the mind-altering experiences of hallucinogenic drugs. If that is a bench march on how to determine if a band is doing it right, then The Arcs blew it out of the water. I felt almost hypnotized throughout the entire performance. It only took the bands exit from the stage to shake me out of my daze so I could join in the relentless cries for an encore.
Listen to Yours, Dreamily in its entirety and don’t miss out on a chance to see The Arcs live!
