Juno Awards 2016.

I don’t really pay much attention to the Juno’s – maybe that says something about my patriotism. Usually it’s all about the Carly Rae Jepson’s and the Biebs of Canada (although this year I have to admit I dug his album). However I didn’t completely turn a blind eye in 2016, especially since I had some favourites on the nominee list.

I’m not surprised to see the Weeknd walk away with five awards (Album of the Year; Single of the Year; Artist of the Year; Songwriter of the Year; Soul/R&B Recording of the Year). Even though the Weeknd swept the floor, Beiber and Drake still managed to walk away with Pop and Rap Albums of the year respectively. Other winners included Walk of the Earth for Group of the Year, Alessia Cara for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Dear Rouge for Breakthrough Group of the Year.

The highlight for me was Death From Above 1979 winning Rock Album of the Year for The Physical World. It’s no secret they are my favourite. I am happy to see them recognized for the work they do.
